Willie Desatoff (B: 12/23/1921 - D: 10/2/2005)

Willie was recognized as one of the top two or three Balboa dancers in the world. He was recognized for his very smooth "no bounce" style. Willie's smooth dance style on the dance floor could be compared to the style of the Nicholas brothers (tap dancers) in which their upper bodies glided smoothly around the dance floor while all hell was breaking loose below the waist -- with feet and legs performing magic on the dance floor.

Maxie Lee Dorf (D: 12/18/2000)
I don't think you would get an argument from anyone that Maxie Lee Dorf was the greatest Balboa dancer that ever lived. In the mid 1930s Maxie danced in a group called the Ray Rand Dancers. In 1936 at the California State Fair in Pomona they danced in competition every day against Whitey's Lindy Hoppers. Maxie's partner with the Ray Rand Swing Dancers was Mary McCaslin. The group danced in almost every theatre and night club in California. They also danced every new years eve for four years in several different night clubs in Palm Springs California. In 1938 & 1939 Maxie won the dance competition at the Paramount Theatre in Los Angeles. Maxie says he never lost a contest.
